BENNY · COURSE

Movement Foundations

The course grew from a wish to reclaim the freedom to move with our surroundings. To develop an eye for possibilities in familiar places and objects, and gain tools to turn them into training: building strength, expanding our movement abilities and learning to connect them. A practice inspired by our surroundings, where play and challenge invite us to stay curious and keep developing.

We’ll learn movement techniques, concepts and exercises you can return to and develop over time. We’ll understand how to adapt them to different environments and objects, make them easier or harder and build progressions suited to your abilities. Through these principles, you’ll be able to keep developing an independent practice of your own.

Who it’s for

For people who want to expand their personal training and develop strength and movement skills outdoors. The course offers practical tools for working with what’s around you, adapting the challenge to your ability and building a practice you can sustain and progress.

It’s also for coaches and therapists who want to explore more possibilities with the objects already available to them, create varied tasks and build progressions suited to the people they work with.

Adults (18+) with some movement experience and basic fitness.

What we’ll explore

Areas we work on throughout the course.

  1. Meeting the Ground

Smarter, more precise and responsive feet — feet that sense their surroundings and know how to move with them.

We’ll deepen our relationship with the ground by developing sensitivity to points of contact, weight shifts and how the body organises itself in relation to a surface. Through this sensitivity, we’ll learn to prepare for soft landings and an elastic rebound from one landing into the next jump.

As confidence in landing grows, so does the freedom to jump. We’ll practise jumping to specific points, landing on different surfaces and changing direction and height. These tasks invite us to adapt and find solutions to the questions each challenge presents.

  2. Moving with Objects

Sometimes we find ourselves repeating the same movements, doing things in the same way. Working with objects, we’ll develop tools for creating: letting the shape in front of us suggest new directions, experimenting and discovering movement as we go.

Through tasks and skills drawn from locomotion and soft acrobatics, we’ll explore ways to climb onto, step down, turn and pass over or around objects, expanding beyond familiar habits. We’ll move between adapting a movement we know to an object and allowing the object to lead us towards a new solution.

We’ll begin by building sequences around one object, then connect several objects and find the “glue” between them: how one movement prepares the next, and how transitions become part of the creative process.

  3. Gripping, Hanging and Climbing

“A tree — somewhere to fall asleep.” Behind this phrase is the idea of the practice: developing confidence and ease even when our feet are far from the ground.

The strength to pull ourselves up is only part of the story. Climbing involves the whole body: the feet learn to grip and apply pressure with control, weight shifts between points of contact, and the body organises itself to reach the next hold.

Tasks and games on bars and walls will invite us to combine grips, change direction and connect hanging positions. We’ll also explore greater complexity, moving from stable support into swinging and dynamic transitions, where strength, timing and whole-body movement come together.

  4. Strength That Grows Through Movement

Our surroundings offer many ways to develop strength and become more efficient in how we use it. We’ll learn to recognise these possibilities and turn them into varied tasks.

By learning to see opportunities for movement in our surroundings, we can build progressions — making a task harder or easier according to each person’s ability and what we want to develop.

This perspective makes strength work more interesting, more curious and sometimes more like solving a puzzle, while also making it more precise: finding where to start, how to progress and how to keep developing the task.
